Thalapathy Vijay’s LEO has broken records left, right and centre with its day one collections worldwide, as the film has completely overtaken records set by other films in multiple territories across the globe.

In Tamil Nadu, LEO has set a new record for the day one collections in the state, bringing in a number of 40 crores (approx). Even though it did not have the early morning shows in the state and had started off only from 9am onwards, the film achieved a huge screen count and packed shows across the state in order to end up with a record breaking number. The actuals for TN are set to arrive in a couple of hours. Thalapathy Vijay has overtaken the previous records set by Beast and Sarkar with his own film that is LEO.

LEO has not just performed well in TN but is also a record-breaker outside the state, as it is the first film to do in excess of 10 crores in all the South Indian regions at once. LEO has grossed close to 14 crores in Karnataka, more than 12 crores in Kerala (all time #1 opener for Kollywood movie in both Karnataka & Kerala) and has surprisingly done close to the 16 crore mark in the Telugu states – which is commendable because of the buzz that the film has managed to create without a single on-ground event. With these feat, Thalapathy Vijay becomes the only actor in India to register more than 10CR gross in all the four Southern markets in a single day! All these areas are about to reach the breakeven point in a couple of days or at maximum, by the end of the six day opening weekend.

LEO has also done a good number of 2.75 crore nett (5Cr gross) in Hindi, which is really good considering the fact that there were no promotions executed for the film in the region.

Thalapathy Vijay’s massive overseas fanbase has led to massive numbers for LEO, as it has now turned out to be the second-biggest day one grosser of all time in the North America, with more than 2.4 million dollars to its name. In the UK & Europe the film has grossed more than 1.3 million dollars, registering highest ever for an Indian film, while Australia and New Zealand have accounted $325K.

In the Middle East, LEO has performed a record breaking number with $2.3 million, making it the highest ever for a Tamil film, the highest day one grosser from India in 2023, and the second highest grossing Indian film on day one, just behind Baahubali 2.

In Malaysia, LEO has gained a huge number of $725K dollars, while Singapore has contributed $610K dollars. This is a huge number which is an all-time record in both the locations, making it even bigger for the overseas collections of the film.

The rest of the overseas locations such as Sri Lanka, Poland and so on have brought in a decent number which will account above $70K.

In totality, LEO’s opening day numbers are close to the 8 million dollar mark, making it the highest earner of all time from Tamil cinema, beating Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali which had $6.5 million to its name.

The film has grossed 148.5 crores on the opening day, which ensures it is the highest opening number of 2023, beating Pathaan, Jawan and Adipurush. Massive is the word! With this monstrous achievement, Thalapathy Vijay becomes the only actor in Kollywood to have 100CR+ Day 1 gross globally!
